Have you ever wondered what prayer really does? Do you find it difficult to pray because you feel as if you're only engaged in a conversation with yourself? Feelings like this are common, especially for those who are just beginning to develop a relationship with Christ. But prayer really is important and it accomplishes so much. Let's take a very brief look at prayer—a kind of primer—to get you started. Prayer is a mechanism for us to stay connected to God. First Thessalonians 5:17 says to “pray without ceasing.” Although we might feel as if we are talking to the air when we pray, God is listening! Would He command us to pray constantly if He were not ready and willing to answer our prayers and direct our lives to be in harmony with His will? Indeed, prayer is an essential component to our survival and victory over sin on this earth. Without it, conquering our temptations because of our innate sinful nature is much more difficult. The Bible says we were born in sin and shaped in iniquity (Psalm 51:5); therefore, we cannot fight sin on our own. The only way to gain victory is through Christ, but we must have a relationship with Him to be victorious. Prayer keeps us in constant communication with the Savior, whom is our sole source for salvation and victory! Prayer is our opportunity. In addition to helping us develop a closer relationship with God, prayer is an opportunity for us to voice our deepest desires and hopes directly to Him. Philippians 4:6 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Yes, God already knows our every thought, but oh, how He desires for us to come freely to Him and ask Him to be part of the answer. And we know that we have been heard by someone who deeply loves us. James 5:16 tell us that the “effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Remember that prayer isn’t a kind of wish list for anything you want in the world; however, a prayer request in keeping with God’s will can work miracles. As you grow in prayer, you will “see” God’s answering your prayers as life unfolds and you will feel His Spirit upon you. Why would we not want to pray? Prayer is a lifeline in a raging ocean. If you were drowning in a storm-tossed ocean and someone tossed you a lifeline, would you ignore it? Or would you grab for it and hold on for dear life? We have to fervently grab onto prayer and use it as a lifeline of salvation that will keep us connected to Christ our Savior. So what do you think? Why not challenge yourself? Make prayer a special part of your life for 90 days and see what God will do for you. Or give it a special emphasis when you watch MIQ—and see how God speaks to your heart! Sabrina P.

@ Mariam: My mom, even if she doesn't have the perfect knowledge of the bible she does one thing really well. PRAYS! For everything and anything that niggles her. I myself am trying that more because I realize that it is absolutely essential to get a good relationship with God. Sometimes when you pray, God allows you to get an idea to absolve the problem, sometimes, he works through a person or a book or a tv show or an internet site but HE WILL ANSWER. Sometimes we ask and look for huge or unbelievable things to happen because... well... HE is GOD. But most of the time He whispers and we don't hear. So listen more and also let God guide you. Sometimes instead of just giving you what you want He guides you to something better. So don't be surprised if you may not get exactly what you want! What we want may not be best for us and He knows that. You may get something infinitely better. So keep praying and let Him do whatever He wants in His own time!111

Indeed! PRAYER deepens our relationship with our Christ. A way to overcome sin. The more we pray, the more we feel God's Holy presence. Prayer is an expression of our only Hope to Jesus, our needs and desires to God. For me, it is okay to pray oftentimes as long as you don't cease. It is better if you pray everyday! Prayer is really part of our lives and I can say that it is a habit. Prayer gives us HOPE and likewise, STRENGTH. Through prayer, we receive blessings from God. Through prayer, our faith becomes stronger. If there is no other way to help solve problems, then PRAY! That's the ONLY way! Prayer is the strongest than any other way. Jesus Christ alone is the source of our prayer. "When we read the Bible, God speaks to us. When we pray, we speak to God." "God indeed is a listening God. We don't have to Shout nor cry out loud. Because God hears even the very silent prayer a sincere heart." "God understand our prayers, even when we cannot find the words to say them. For God knows our hearts better than we do." "God above us (our Father), has become God with us (Jesus Christ), and God within us (Holy Spirit). We must pray TO the Father alone IN the Holy Spirit THROUGH Jesus Christ in order our prayers to be answered." I do LOVE to PRAY! God bless everyone who pray to God alone through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit. He loves us!

Prayer unleashes God's power so that he is able to work in our behalf. Prayer opens the channels of God's blessing. Prayer is how God accomplishes the things that he wants to see happen in our lives. Prayer opens new doors of opportunity for God to move. In fact you can view prayer like a door. You are on one side of a closed door and on the other side is God. But standing with God is all this incredible and unimaginable power. When you pray, it is you turning that doorknob and swinging that door wide open. For it is at that moment when all that power can step through that doorway and work for God's good, and for your good. Since he respects our freedom of choice and free will, prayer enables him to step into our lives. God has limited his powers in our lives to the importance that we place on prayer. Prayer gives God the permission to do what he has been longing to do all the time. Even when we do not see anything significant occurring, God is still at work solving the problem. When there are apparently no answers, God is still is waiting for the proper time to give us the solution.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the rush of life that we sometimes "forget to pray" (however i don't think that we really forget but rather think that other less significant things are more important) The thing is we fail to realize that God loves us and longs to hear from so i say..... talk to HIM....HE loves you...

Prayer is our way to exercise and express our will to God. He knows what you need before you ask, but He will not force His will on you. Prayer is how we "Ask, seek, and knock". He wants to give freely, but we have to open the door.

an idea for those who struggle with prayer is to talk to God continuously in your heart or mind like while walking on the street we sometime meditate on our problems but i'm sure it would be a great idea to just share them with Him like to adress Him all our thoughts.

The Bible does not appear to be "women" friendly or supportive in many instances. Why? Examples - When angels came to Lot and the people wanted him to send them out to know them, he offered up his daughters instead. In Revelation, referencing the 144,000, it speaks of their being virgins, not defiled by women. While I understand that the Bible is full of symbolism, it is my feeling that women are treated "less than" in this world most likely influenced by the manner in which they are treated by example in the Bible. There are many other examples however, these are sufficient for you to get my meaning. Women are treated like second class citizens in the Bible. Yes, there are exceptions, a few. Mary, honored above all women.
