The Bible says, “Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? [then] may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil” (Jeremiah 13:23). The bad news is, your chance of overcoming an addiction is slim to none. However, your condition is not hopeless. The Bible has more to say about it! “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26). “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). There are many who say “once an addict, always an addict,” but that is a lie of the devil. The good news is, your addiction can be overcome. All things are possible- including overcoming addiction- with God (Mark 10:27). Here are some general principles to help you overcome any addiction: Ask God for help. “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). Remember, without God, overcoming sin and addiction is impossible. Pray. When you wake up in the morning, pray. Throughout the day, pray. In the evening, pray. Confide in close friends and family. They love you and will support your through your struggle. Do good works. God needs you to help spread the Good News. When you are actively working for God, it's easier to ignore temptation. If you fall, get back up! “For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity” (Prov. 24:16). One Christian author put it this way: “There are those who have known the pardoning love of Christ and who really desire to be children of God, yet they realize that their character is imperfect, their life faulty, and they are ready to doubt whether their hearts have been renewed by the Holy Spirit. To such I would say, Do not draw back in despair. We shall often have to bow down and weep at the feet of Jesus because of our shortcomings and mistakes, but we are not to be discouraged. Even if we are overcome by the enemy, we are not cast off, not forsaken and rejected of God. No; Christ is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” CK Lester

Well, I want to add that a very good way to totally avoid addiction is trying to forget all about the stimulations and the desires, by focusing the mind all the time on things which has nothing to do with the habit that's of normal interest. When such thoughts come again, such a person should try to memorize Bible passages all the time that talks about overcoming, and also form the habit of singing inspirational gospel songs. God bless.

EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ADDICTIVE BEHAVIOURS I BELIEVE THAT THE BEST WAY TO OVERCOME ADDICTIONS IS TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSES THE ADDICTION AND TRY TO KEEP AWAY FROM IT AND WE MUST SEEK THE FACE OF THE LORD IN EARNEST PRAYER DAILY AND ASK HIM FOR STRENGTH.:}

Yes, it is most important to remember that when addicts fall, the adversary may use this time to convince the addict with a lie that he/she is hopeless and not worth it and that they are not worthy to face God. This is why it is important to have friends and family around if possible, to remind them about what the Bible says, that they are special and valuable to God even though they have fallen.

While there are many recovery groups/meetings to attend for various addictions, they all claim that your higher power can deliver you. Well we Christians know the only higher power is the Lord God and Without Him complete recovery will not occur. Because even if your addictions are in remission, you are still spiritually sick and the ending of that is far worse then any earthy addiction. He will give you all you need to regain control of your life and will surround you with other godly men and women on the same path of recovery. Remember, Jesus said in Lk.4:18, that He came to set free those who are oppressed. Is anything to hard for the Lord? No! With God all things are possible. Praise Him who alone can set your your mind and body free. Amen.

I think that it is really important to "overcome evil with good". We often fall back into the addiction because now that we remove it, there is simply a vacuum in its place and a lecturer of mine once said that "nature abhors a vacuum'. so we often go right back into the negative behaviour because we have not replaced it with anything. Every time we leave a habit at the feet of Jesus we must remember to pick up something positive in its place.

I would like to add that those who are caught in additions should not try to be set free alone. Go to a support group or get one friend to which you are accountable. Pray with that friend and let him keep checking on you. The buddy system really helps you overcome.

Is it true that God discourages ALL other religions besides Christianity? Or besides Muslim, or Judaism? Are all other "deities" or gods and their believers sinful and not loving Yahweh or Jesus? What about the ones who never had a chance to know that God exists?

I haven't been baptized yet. I've read in the Bible that you won't go to Heaven if you are not baptized. I haven't gotten baptized because I don't know if I'm ready. Since I don't know when I'm going to die or when Christ will come, I'm scared that I won't be baptized by then. What do I do?
