Are you in love with Jesus?
Like, do you wake up thinking about Him? Can’t wait to talk to Him?
When I was a teen, I wanted to answer those questions with a loud “Yes!” But the reality was that school, friends,
and sleep usually filled my days and thoughts. I loved God, but we weren’t that close.
Can you relate?
How to Fall in Love
So what does it take to fall in love with someone?
Is it having things in common? Sharing music and inside jokes? Being able to talk about anything? Liking each
other’s vibe? Having similar goals?
All of those things help. But if there’s one thing that really makes love grow, it’s this:
spending time together.
Loving Jesus works the same way—the more time you spend with Him, the more you’ll know Him, and the more you’ll love
Him.
God’s Alarm Clock
One day, a teacher shared a verse with me that changed how I thought about spending time with God.
The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is
weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned (Isaiah 50:4, emphasis
added).
“Claim this promise before you go to bed at night and ask God to wake you up in the morning so you can spend time
with Him,” my teacher said.
I liked that idea. My alarm clock and I weren’t exactly friends. I resented its daily intrusion into my dreams. I’d
groan, hit snooze, and roll over for a few more precious minutes of sleep before I scrambled to get ready for my
first class.
My time with Jesus? Mostly non-existent.
I decided to try it.
That night, I opened my Bible to Isaiah 50:4, put my finger on the verse, and prayed: “Dear Jesus, you know I’d
really like to spend more time with you. I want to love you more. Can you please wake me up in the morning?”
The next morning, I woke up feeling rested. Curious, I rolled over and looked at my alarm clock. It was set to go
off in five minutes. Wow! God had actually woken me up!
I slipped out of bed, knelt by my bunk, and prayed, “Thank you for waking me up, God! That was amazing!” I spent the
next little bit praying more and reading my Bible.
The Realization
One thought stood out to me:
God wanted to spend time with me! He woke me up just so we could be together!
And then this: If God wants to spend time with me, He must really love me!
I read Isaiah 50:4 again. This time, I noticed something else: The verse is actually a prophecy about Jesus. Even
Jesus—the Son of God—started His days by meeting with His Father. Morning by morning, God woke Him, guided Him, and
gave Him words to help others.
If Jesus needed daily time with God, then I did too.
And the thought that God was willing to wake me up just so we could spend time together? That changed how I saw Him.
How could I not love Him?
At first, I didn’t always get up when God woke me. Sometimes, I chose to sleep. But over time, it became a habit—and
then something more.
Jesus became my best friend.
I still have room to grow. But God has grown my love for Him more than I ever could on my own. That’s the best part
of this whole thing: God takes the first step because He loves us!
- He wakes us up.
- He speaks through the Bible.
- He even gives us the desire to pray and know Him.
What an amazing, loving Father!
How to Fall in Love with Jesus
Would you like to love Jesus more? Then it’s time to accept His invitation to spend time with Him.
Why not try setting God’s alarm clock?
Before you go to bed, open your Bible to Isaiah 50:4 and ask God to wake you up in the morning like He woke Jesus.
He will do it! There is nothing better than being gently woken 5 to 10 minutes before your alarm clock goes off and
knowing that the God of the universe wants to spend time with you! Just be aware, He might wake you a lot sooner
than that if He has a lot to say to you.
But here’s the catch: He won’t force you to stay awake. That’s your choice. So make the decision to get up as soon
as He wakes you. If mornings are hard for you, try these tips:
- Go to bed earlier—your body restores best before midnight.
- Get out of bed right away (devotions in bed are risky!).
- Drink a big glass of water to wake your brain up.
- Take a short walk and pray before reading your Bible.
- Trust that if God woke you up, He’ll give you the energy you need for the
day.
God loves you—and He wants to spend time with you.
Are you willing to let Him wake you up?
If so, I encourage you to claim Isaiah 50:4 tonight. It changed my life—and God is ready to work in yours too.
